3M™ 8663 Polyurethane Protective Tape is a transparent 18 mm thick polyurethane elastomer tape designed to protect leading edges, e.g. to protect horizontal stabilizers against sand or rain. The polyurethane carrier is resistant to scratches, tearing, erosion, punctures and impacts. Clear tape can be painted or applied to painted surfaces. The tape is resistant to environmental conditions and is therefore widely used for insulation and protection against damage caused by environmental factors and erosion. The polyethylene protective layer prevents the adhesive from getting dirty before gluing and applying it to the glued surfaces. 3M™ 8663 Polyurethane Protective Tape meets the highest requirements of leading aircraft manufacturers for protection against erosion caused by rain or sand/dust. The tape is covered with PSA acrylic adhesive, which effectively adheres to the glued surface and reacts with many different substrates. After gluing, the glue ensures high and safe adhesion even over long periods. Acrylic adhesive retains its strength over a wide range of temperature and weather changes. If necessary, the tape comes off easily and does not leave any dirt.
